Crossing from Petropolis to Teresopolis
This crossing, named the National Park of the Mountain Range of the Organs' crossing, is considered by specialists of trekking as the most beautiful crossing in Brazil and also one of the toughest. It is a total of approximately 15,66 miles from the beginning of the path, in the entrance of the park in Bonfim valley in Petropolis, to the main entrance of the park in Teresopolis (it can be done in the other direction too). There are about 3,78 miles to the Açu mountain and later more 3,78 miles to Bell's rock, then in sequence 5,94 miles to the barrier already in the main part of the park and finally 2,16 miles to the main entrance in Teresopolis. Although the distances are not that big, the trekking that goes up and down all the time becomes heavy even if you stop to sleep two nights. There is the option to stay just one night or two.
The National Park of the Mountain Range of the Organs is spread in 4 cities: Teresópolis, Petropolis, Guapimirim and Mage, and it is located 50km at north of Guanabara Bay. This was the third park created in Brazilian lands, in 1939 in the government of the president Getiilio Vargas.
The name Mountain Range of the Organs, according to historians, may be originated by the imagination of the catholic Portuguese people that saw in the singular sequence of the peaks behind the waters of Guanabara bay something similar to the tubes of an organ, a very common musical instrument in the churches at that time. There is another version that the title would be connected to the names of vital organs given to some rocks: God's finger, Friar's nose, Our lady's finger and others, but the first version is definitely more acceptable.
This part is the highest of this mountain range, with more than 6561,68 feet of height in some places. The soil is extremely uneven forming many different peaks and mountains coming from the middle of the forest (Mata Atlantica) like Escalavrado, Agulha do Diabo (Devil's needle), Garrafao (Big Bottle), Santo Antonio (Saint Antonio), Sao Joao (Saint John), Sao Pedro (Saint Pedro), Pedra do Sino (Bell's rock), Papudo, Morro Açu (Açu mountain), Morro da luva (Glove mountain), Morro do Cubaio (Cubaio mountain), Castelitos (Little Castles), etc.
This trekking passes through many crests of the mountain range of the organs like,Açu mountain, Mark mountain and Bell's rock.
